Information Collected for Tracking and Customization (Cookies)
A cookie is a small file that a website transfers to a computer to allow it to remember specific information about a session while the user is connected. A computer will only share the information in the cookie with the website that provided it, and no other website can request it. There are two types of cookies:
  • Session: Session cookies, or variables, last only as long as the web browser is open. Once the user closes their browser, the cookie is deleted. Websites may use session cookies for technical purposes such as to enable better navigation through the site, or to allow the user to customize their preferences for interacting with the site.
  • Persistent: Persistent cookies are saved on a user’s hard drive in order to determine which users are new to the site or are returning, and for repeat visitors, or to block recurring invitations.
Delivering Hope does not utilize "persistent" cookies, but does utilize "session variables" that retain information while the site is in use. Session variables are utilized to retain key information and transfer it from page to page to ensure the program works. Session variables are terminated when the web browser is closed or the computer is turned off. If the user does not wish to have session or persistent cookies stored on their machine, they can turn cookies off in their browser. However, turning off cookies should not affect the functioning of the Delivering Hope websites. Be aware that disabling cookies in a browser will affect cookie usage at all other websites they visit as well.
